There are so many cultural attractions in Dublin, Ireland. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Trinity College (Book of Kells!), lovely Saint Stephens Green and so much more..
With that said, two fun and cultural stars of Dublin include the Guinness Store House and Old Jameson Distillery. Both attractions are so well done and have so much to do with the history of Dublin and the people who live there.
When I visited Jameson I thought it was wonderful! It was toward the end of the day so we were part of one of the last tours. The bar area where you wait for your tour to begin was beautifully restored, the staff was friendly and the set up encouraged you to walk around, look at the displays and interact with other tourists from around the world.
Just before the start of the tour, you walk up a flight of stairs and go into the first of several rooms that you’ll go into and learn about Jameson. From it’s founding to the present and the tour is interactive. Below is a picture from one of the tour rooms. It’s great that they have you use all of your senses!
Of course there is a tasting room but if you don’t drink you can just smell it. There was also a beautifully done gift shop & you’ll have a coupon to enjoy a beverage on your way out. I love that they talk about just about everything on this tour! And I mean everything – even some history of the cats that helped keep the mice under control at the facility over the years!
It was also wonderful to see the wall with of all of the print ads that Jameson has had over the years. So even if you’re not a whiskey fan (but you might be when you leave!) I would highly recommend checking out Old Jameson Distillery when you are in Dublin.
